چکیده

Bioresorbable polymers do not provide sufficient load-bearing support within the body as they do not possess the mechanical properties required to fixate bone [1]. Structural implants rely on durable materials such as metal alloys and ceramics which exceed the modulus of the parent bone tissue approximately tenfold. Since bone structure constantly adjusts to local conditions, this tends to weaken surrounding tissues and can result in recurring damage after removal of the device.

Opportunities and challenges for the biodegradable magnesium alloys as next-generation biomaterials.

In recent years, biodegradable magnesium alloys emerge as a new class of biomaterials for tissue engineering and medical devices. Deploying biodegradable magnesium-based materials not only avoids a second surgical intervention for implant removal but also circumvents the long-term foreign body effect of permanent implants. However, these materials are often subjected to an uncontrolled and fast...

Plga: a Polymer of Choice as Nanocarrier’s to Achieve Effective Delivery of Medicinal Substances

Poly (D,L-lactide-co-glycolic acid) the first synthetic biodegradable polymer used in surgery as resorbabe material, is also approved by USFDA for use in drug delivery. The nanoparticle composed of PLGA can be used for both controlled and targeted drug delivery. There are various grades of PLGA which are having different biodegradation characteristics such as degradation takes place in several ...

Hydroxyapatite nanorod-reinforced biodegradable poly(L-lactic acid) composites for bone plate applications.

Novel PLLA composite fibers containing hydroxyapatite (HAp) nanorods with or without surface lactic acid grafting were produced by extrusion for use as reinforcements in PLLA-based bone plates. Fibers containing 0-50% (w/w) HAp nanorods, aligned parallel to fiber axis, were extruded. Lactic acid surface grafting of HAp nanorods (lacHAp) improved the tensile properties of composites fibers bette...

Zirconium, calcium, and strontium contents in magnesium based biodegradable alloys modulate the efficiency of implant-induced osseointegration

Development of new biodegradable implants and devices is necessary to meet the increasing needs of regenerative orthopedic procedures. An important consideration while formulating new implant materials is that they should physicochemically and biologically mimic bone-like properties. In earlier studies, we have developed and characterized magnesium based biodegradable alloys, in particular magn...
